ARE YOU MAKING YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTION?

Most people like to make a New Year’s resolution, with many of us relating it to our health and committing to becoming more active in the forthcoming months.  More often than not this means spending more time on our feet.

In 2019 why not start with building strong foundations to help you achieve your goals and make a commitment to your feet first?  Made up of 26 bones, 33 joints and 100 muscles your feet take a pounding every day.  Whether you intend to run your first 5K or scale Mount Everest, if your feet are not fit for the challenge then it is unlikely you will be able to complete yours!

 Get your foot pain checked out!

If you are suffering from foot pain and haven’t had it checked by a podiatrist, do so now.  Foot pain is common and, if not caused by an injury, is usually related to the way you walk and to the type of shoe you wear. The best way to find out the cause of your pain and to relieve your discomfort is to visit a podiatrist.

Make sure you have the right foot wear

Make sure your everyday shoes fit correctly and offer the right level of support and protection you require .  Wearing flip flops and high heels once in a while should be fine but, without adequate support,  if you wear them over longer periods of time you may open yourself up to injury.

Commit to changing your running shoes every six months

You may have spent considerable time choosing the most supportive running shoe for your needs.  However over time the support they offer can reduce significantly with high usage and this could place you at greater risk form sports-related injuries.  Instead of waiting for a hole in the heel to appear, commit to replacing them every 300 – 500 miles, it is much more cost effective then having to treat an injury!
